Moritzburg Castle opening hours

Opening hours
The short version: in the baroque season the doors are open daily 10:00 to 18:00 with last entry at 16:45. In the Cinderella season they open daily 09:30 to 17:30 with last entry at 16:15. Between the two the castle is shut altogether for about three weeks, and the winter season has single closed days scattered through it. Read the dates off schloss-moritzburg.de for the day you are actually travelling.

Coming out from Dresden? The castle sells its own admission at its own counter, so what is worth booking ahead is the ride: a guided day that carries the ticket for you, or a car from Prague. Every one of them cancels free up to 24 hours before, and one of the six is Moritzburg and nothing else.

See the ways out there

The three-week gap nobody mentions

The baroque exhibition runs 20 March to 1 November. The castle then shuts completely from 2 to 19 November. From 20 November to 28 February the building holds the Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel exhibition — Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella — at the same admission price, and while that is on, the baroque rooms are not part of the visit.

The gap is the thing to write on your calendar. From 2 to 19 November there is no exhibition at all in the building — not a reduced visit, not a courtyard-only visit, nothing. I have met people on the causeway in the second week of November who had read somewhere that a castle this size never closes. The park was still there and the lake was still there, and that was the whole afternoon. What you can still walk to when the doors are shut.

The closed days inside the winter season

The Cinderella exhibition does not run straight through. The castle publishes these as closed: 24 and 31 December 2026, then 7, 8, 11, 18 and 25 January and 1 and 22 February 2027. Most of those are Mondays, and a January Monday is exactly the sort of day a visitor from Prague picks because the roads are quiet.

Last entry, and what a late arrival really gets you

Last entry is an hour and a quarter before the doors shut in both seasons. That is not a formality: the baroque route with a HistoPad in your hand takes longer than most people plan for, and the winter exhibition is built to be walked slowly. If your bus from Dresden puts you in the village after four, you will see the building rather than the rooms. How much time the visit actually wants.

The other building, on its own clock

The Fasanenschlösschen in the park keeps a shorter and stricter season than the castle: 30 April to 1 November, Thursday to Sunday only, 10:30 to 15:30, and guided tours at 11:00, 12:15 and 14:00 with ten places each. It is the easiest thing on the estate to miss by arriving on a Tuesday.

The castle sells its own admission at its own counter and on schloss-moritzburg.de. There is no Moritzburg entry ticket on GetYourGuide, so nothing on this site is a substitute for that counter. What the platform sells is the journey, and two of the six listings that reach Moritzburg carry a castle ticket inside the day: the guided day from Dresden and the private Prague car that pairs Moritzburg with the Zwinger.

A day built to arrive in the open hours

The guided day from Dresden runs about eight hours and puts Meißen and the porcelain works in the same trip, with the castle admission named in its inclusions and the day’s public transport covered. Per group of up to ten, around four hundred and twenty euros, rated 4.6 from 3 reviews. How the Dresden day works.

Frequently asked questions

What are the opening hours at Moritzburg Castle?

Daily 10:00 to 18:00 from 20 March to 1 November, last entry 16:45; daily 09:30 to 17:30 from 20 November to 28 February, last entry 16:15.

Is Moritzburg Castle open in November?

Only at the two ends of it. The castle shuts completely from 2 to 19 November, then reopens on 20 November with the Cinderella exhibition. What that exhibition is.

Is Moritzburg Castle open on Mondays?

In the baroque season, yes, it opens daily. In the winter season several of the published closed days fall on a Monday, including 11, 18 and 25 January 2027.

When does Moritzburg Castle reopen in spring?

The castle publishes 20 March 2026 for the start of that year’s baroque season. I do not have a confirmed date for the 2027 reopening and I am not going to guess one.
